Ukranian Hack Attempt?

I recently received an email notice from “steelheart7180” via the IMA Forum that was in English, about online gaming/betting. When I clicked on the Discussion link, there was no discussion present. Later, the same message was sent again, but that time it was in Ukranian, and still led to a no-discussions page at this IMA Forum site.

    Who is steelheart7180?

Hi @AaronAF , it’s like whack-a-mole. Some spam gets through. The vast majoroity of it doesn’t. So then I have to find the discussion or reply and set it to spam and suspend the account.

Please ignore these when you see them. I am watching for them all the time. And apologies that they get through.

TOO MANY SOLICITATION OFFERS ARE BEING SUBMITTED THROUGH THIS PLATFORM which will eventually causes people to drop out of this platform. I have received as many as 2 per day. Please address this issue. Dr. Rafael F. Cruz MD

That Ukrainian spam was the first spam I had noticed. GregT is doing a fine job at catching 99.99% of them!

Hi @Dr. Rafael F. Cruz MD , the issue is someone will sign up under a spurious name, and they immediately have the ability to post a new discussion, so they do. Our spam checker will check the post according to it’s algorithms and bump it into spam accordingly. I have to look in the spam folder multiple times a day to make sure that legitamit posts haven’t landed up in there, and they often do.raf

So if someone signs up and posts something that maybe has a link that looks legit, it may get through. The issue then is that everyone gets the notification that there’s a new post. You can turn off the notifications on your profile, but then you won’t get notification of posts you may be interested in.

And then numerous times/day I check for spam that has gotten through, and I’ll mark it as spam and suspend the user.

So, we can only apologize for those that do slip through. It’s cat and mouse and whackamole. Please know though we’re doing everything we can to minimise these. Some though do slip through.

And also please know, they don’t have your name at all. It’s just the notfication system doing it’s work. Apologies again.

Thanks for your good work and explanation. I have seen more get through with solicitations for vitamins, creams, protein drinks, pharmacies. etc. Would you like to be notified? What is the best way?
