    Beans are back!

Who knew that eating more fibre would become the hottest internet trend since homemade sourdough?

The kids are calling it “fibremaxxing”, because apparently just eating your vegetables isn’t ambitious enough anymore!

As Jenna McCarthy hilariously points out, those of us who remember the oat bran craze of the ’80s might be wondering whether we’ve accidentally travelled back in time. 😂

But here’s where it gets interesting. There really is some science behind the hype.

Jenna highlights a study following 345 overweight or obese adults on calorie-restricted diets for six months.

Those who increased their fibre intake the most lost an average of 22.7 pounds, compared with 12.8 pounds among those whose fibre intake decreased. The association remained even after researchers accounted for calorie intake and other dietary factors.

    And don’t miss Jenna’s brilliantly tongue-in-cheek take:

And what’s one old-fashioned food habit you think deserves a comeback?

It took me a while to diagnose myself (since no doctor was able), but after three years of IBD symptoms – bad ones – I got rid of all fiber, and my gut finally calmed down. Also, beans are highly toxic, which is why they must be soaked and cooked for so long. This led me to carnivore. The high fat took away my food noise and I feel better at 70 than I did at 40.

What a journey you’ve been on!

It just goes to show how differently our bodies can respond to the same foods. I’m so glad you’ve found something that works for you, especially after struggling for so long. And feeling better at 70 than you did at 40? That’s wonderful! 😊 Thanks for sharing your experience.
