The Gelatin Question Nobody Is Asking

This week’s webinar on tick-borne illness and alpha-gal brought up something I keep mulling over ..

    Gelatin.

Most people think of gelatin as something in sweets, desserts, capsules, or bone broth. But many childhood vaccines have also used gelatin as a stabilizer, including vaccines like MMR.

Dr. Lynn Fynn raised a very interesting question: with the increase in childhood vaccines over time, and the increase we are seeing in alpha-gal syndrome, has anyone properly looked at whether repeated exposure to gelatin through vaccination could be priming some children’s immune systems? Have they looked at the rates of Alpha Gal in the unvaccinated?

As she pointed out, its an important question because it’s a plausible mechanism.

It is what they use in the lab, if researchers want to create anaphylaxis, they prime the animal with small exposures before the bigger exposure.

So why is it unreasonable to ask whether repeated gelatin exposure, followed later by a tick bite, could be part of the story for some people?

She also reminded people with alpha-gal to avoid the shingles vaccine because of this gelatin stabiliser in it.

But… I started to wonder about vegans and informed consent?

I wonder how many vegans actually know that animal-derived gelatin has been used in vaccines? Do their doctors let them know, do they ask if they are vegans, and do you know vegans that have refused the vaccines because of this?

Whatever our views on vaccines, we all agree people deserve to know what is being injected into them or their children. I suspect that lots of strict vegans don’t know, or have decided to ignore the fact.

Would love to hear from you

Oh and do watch the webinar, it was so good. https://imahealth.org/alpha-gal-syndrome-tick-borne-illness/
