The Carrot Story Was Wartime Propaganda
Well who knew.
Were you told that eating carrots would help you see in the dark?
Well it turns out that the British government claimed that eating carrots helped its fighter pilots shoot down German planes at night. In truth, the Royal Air Force relied on top-secret radar and wanted to hide their tech.
“In truth, carrots can’t help the average person see better in the dark any more than eating blueberries will turn them blue.”
Our bodies must convert plant beta-carotene into vitamin A and it takes about 12 micrograms of dietary beta-carotene to provide the vitamin A activity of 1 microgram of preformed retinol.
Another piece of marketing propaganda.
Did you grow up believing the carrot story? What other “health facts” have you since discovered were clever marketing or propaganda?
