    27.6 million to 62.6 million.

That’s how much the number of U.S. outpatient visits involving benzodiazepines grew between 2003 and 2015, that is an increase of 127%.

During the latter part of that period, new prescriptions remained relatively stable, while continuing prescriptions rose by 50%.

Benzodiazepines can have an important role in medicine, but what happens when stopping their usde becomes a problem of its own?

This Wednesday, Dr. Joseph Varon is joined by Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring for a discussion on the relationship between sleep, anxiety and benzodiazepines, including the risks of long-term use and withdrawal, and safer approaches for chronic insomnia.

Yet again chronic conditions that are treated with medication, instead of looking more closely at what is driving the problems in the first place?
