on August 17, 2026 at 5:54 pm EDTI have been having a problem with phlegm that I can’t clear from my throat. This has been going on since January. I do have allergies. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you.

I’ll make it brief as possible. I simply use salt water as a gargle and hydrogen peroxide separately. I also use the original Listerine to try to clear the bacteria that’s in my throat, although I prefer hydrogen peroxide.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Take lamotrigine and discontinue eating all grain foods such as wheat, corn and rice.

Thank you for the info.

I would definitely suggest cutting out eggs if you eat them regularly. Eliminate that for about 3 weeks… then abruptly add back in thereafter. See if it returns! Eggs and dairy can cause excessive phlegm production in some individuals, and more with those who are allergic to other foods.

Thanks for your suggestions but I don’t eat eggs that often. I eat limited dairy.

I have a similar problem, and get some relief doing a daily nasal irrigation with a solution of salt (NaCl) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) in distilled water. I use the commercial product, NeilMed, that provides small packets of a mixture of these two salts. Always use distilled water, never use tap water.) I just add a packet to a small plastic bottle (provided) and dilute to the line (about one cup). Stand over a sink and squeeze the salt solution firmly into each nostril, alternating for each nostril. I use short flushes for each nostril, which allows about four flushes per nostril. You can enhance the effect by breathing in a bit at the start of each flush.
Good luck!

I have a similar problem, and it also affects my voice. I have to continually clear my throat while speaking. Reading aloud is exhausting. Of course, my Instagram is filled with products that will cure it in a week or two. On checking, several are made in China even though they post a glowing testamonial from some “American teacher” who has regained her voice and perfect throat. It is called Silent Reflux on several sites, and the symptoms do fit my condition…no nasal drip or other sinus or allergy symptoms. It’s frequently blamed on pepsin invading the throat. I’ve seen suggestions from other sufferers for trying mullein tea, chewing on a clove with a meal. Before investing in another Chinese cure-all, I have just begun those herbal remedies and will continue to look for help.

I should have mentioned I use a cpap machine nightly. I’ve been using it for at least 15 years but have not had this problem before this year.
-
I too have been using CPAP (for 10 years) and I have discovered that doing my nasal irrigation before bed calms down my phlegm enough to allow more successful easing into sleep. The nasal irrigation i described above gives only a temporary fix; but I’m still grateful for that.

I don’t know about how long you have dealt with this, but I started having real problems with chronic phlegm, trying to clear throat and sometimes feeling like a lump in my throat after the second covid vaccine, so for several years now. I do use navage in the mornings. I also gargle with scope (mouthwash needs to contain benzalkonium chloride) and that is from Dr. Kory’s original protocol for spike protein elimination. Also take the wellness company spike support, NAC, and vitamin D. Sometimes phlegm can be related to gastric reflux so that is another possibility.
The other person that posted salt water gargle is also helpful, but I have found that only offers a short term relief.

Thanks for your input. I’m unvaccinated. During COVID a friend who is a retired doctor suggested I use peroxide (I think Dr Peter McCullough mentioned using iodine and saline nasal spray. I can’t since I have hypothyroidism) and saline nasal spray as part of my daily protocol. I might try it to see if it helps.
-
I tried to use the diluted hydrogen peroxide (0.1%) that Dr. McCullough gave directions for; but I felt it made my nasal congestion worse! I concluded I would use it only if I ever got the COVID infection, not for any other reason.
