I’d love to help with a recommendation, but I don’t know any neurologists. I suffer from neuropathy, too, and haven’t found any MD (in MA or KY where we’ve lived the past 15 yrs.) that knows what caused it or what to do about it. I’ve had offers of risky and speculative surgeries, which I declined.
I live in Eastern KY, and would appreciate it if you’d let us know if you find someone helpful within your area.
I received one clue recently, which provided a relatively safe and inexpensive therapy to try. You can read about it on Robert Yoho’s Substack called Surviving Healthcare. Here’s a link to an article that talks about thiamine therapy for neurological diseases like Parkinson’s. He mentions it may also have benefits for for people with neuropathy: <https://robertyoho.substack.com/p/425-high-dose-thiamine-hdt-is-the?
I bought some thiamine (B1) and a B-complex that DOES NOT include B6. (He suggests supplementing with magnesium, and eliminating any B6 supplementation if you try this.) Dr. Yoho (retired) suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, and writes a lot regarding neurological issues. I hope this helps!

Please explore our providers list, it is still in it’s infancy but may be helpful: https://imahealth.org/providers/
Here is a link to our guide on red light therapy / photobiomodulation as it may be helpful.
Red light therapy is very commonly discussed in relation to:
peripheral neuropathy
nerve pain
diabetic neuropathy
nerve regeneration
inflammation reduction
circulation improvement
The theory is that red and near-infrared light may help support mitochondrial function, blood flow, and cellular repair in damaged nerves.
There are studies looking at diabetic peripheral neuropathy in particular, with some reporting:
reduced pain
improved sensation
better wound healing
improved circulation
Guide https://imahealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ima-red-light-therapy-guide.pdf
-
Thank you for your information, Helen.
-
Good morning, Helen. Thanks for the informtion about red light therapy. It seems that the REFERENCES section is missing from the guide on red light therapy / photobiomodulation publication that you included in your message. If someone forgot to add that section, could you kindly resend me the guide including the Reference section? If the guide does not include references, what information do the doctors of the Independent Medical Association rely on in recommending this treatment?
-
The guide does not have study refrences added, however we have an article here https://imahealth.org/tools-and-guides/red-light-therapy-guide/ about the guide, and there are links in that to over 7000 studies … hope that helps.

Hi @carmen …just in case you hadn’t done an AI search yet, I did, perhaps it will help:
Here are a few strong options that look genuinely experienced with peripheral neuropathy and neuromuscular disorders in the Ohio / Indiana / Michigan / Kentucky region:
Michigan (probably the strongest program regionally)
The University of Michigan has a dedicated Peripheral Neuropathy Program and is considered one of the stronger academic centers in the Midwest for neuropathy evaluation and treatment.
Good specialists there include:
University of Michigan Peripheral Neuropathy Program
Specialists include:
Dr. Amro Stino
Dr. Eva Feldman
Dr. Brian Callaghan
Dr. Benjamin Becker
They handle:
small fiber neuropathy
autoimmune neuropathy
CIDP / GBS
diabetic neuropathy
nutritional neuropathy
post-viral and complex neuropathies
second-opinion cases
📞 Main number: 734-936-9020
Indiana
A few neurologists repeatedly came up in patient recommendations:
IU Health Neurology
Mentioned positively for neuropathy care:
Dr. Rusk
Dr. Scheer
Dr. Nevel
Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine
Mentioned by patients as a much better experience than some larger neurology groups.
Ohio
You may want to look specifically at:
Cleveland Clinic Neuromuscular Center
Ohio State Wexner Neurology
Cleveland Clinic in particular is nationally known for neuropathy and neuromuscular disorders, though the Michigan program above may be easier to access depending on wait times.
Kentucky
The strongest likely option would be:
University of Kentucky Neurology
UofL Health Neurology
For more complex or unexplained neuropathy cases, people often still end up referred onward to larger specialty centers like Michigan or Cleveland Clinic.
Honestly, if this is:
unexplained neuropathy
worsening symptoms
small fiber neuropathy
autoimmune suspicion
post-viral / vaccine injury concerns
dysautonomia
burning pain / numbness progressing
…I would personally put University of Michigan Peripheral Neuropathy Program at the top of the list from the states you mentioned. They seem to have the most dedicated neuropathy infrastructure.

Conditions we have supported: Stroke, TBI, Parkinson’s, MS, CRPS/RSD, ALS (supportive care), hypoxic/anoxic brain injury, spinal cord injury.
Peri-spinal Etanercept (PSE): A patented, specialized method (pioneered by Dr. Edward Tobinick) aimed at reducing neuro-inflammation (TNF-mediated). Some patients notice changes within minutes to hours; improvements may last 12–24+ months (variable). Some longer. Impossible to predict. Proper training and technique are essential to effectiveness.
Important: Many physicians who report “no benefit” did not train in PSE Perispinal etanercept delivery. Technique matters.

Note: My father Dr. Rafael M Cruz MD suffered a cervical spinal cord stroke leaving him a partial quadriplegic. He responded very favorably to Perispinal etanercept therapy every 1-2 years. This allowed him to recover sufficient function to get out of a chair without assistance and to climb a 10 step staircase very slowly but without help. These tasks were impossible before PSE.
How PSE – Perispinal Etanercept Works:
Goal: Reduce chronic neuro-inflammation (TNF/TLR-driven) that can persist years after stroke/TBI and fuel pain, spasticity, dysphasia, gait issues, and cognitive deficits.
Evidence: RCTs and large observational series (e.g., central post-stroke pain; shoulder ROM; mood; gait; speech) show meaningful functional signals; not FDA-approved for these indications (off-label)
Durability: Average 12–36 months; some do not require repeats; others repeat PSE within weeks to extend gains or later if symptoms return.Regenerative Injections that Support Neuroplasticity
We often layer PSE with Regenerative Injections to stimulate neuroplasticity, perfusion, and tissue support:
Personal Hyper-concentrated PRP (large-volume, proprietary processing, photo-energized, + procaine + vitamins + Prolozone/Prolotherapy)
Personal Mesenchymal Signaling Cell Therapy (from your bone marrow or adipose, when appropriate)
Prolozone and Prolotherapy (support ligament/tendon stability, perfusion, and pain modulation)
Ketamine Therapy (BDNF release; mood/pain benefits; used by anesthesiologists/EM/critical-care experts)
Advanced Microcurrent Device (FDA-cleared for pain; daily home use to reinforce neuro gains)
Safety Note: Personal PRP and personal mesenchymal harvesting have very low risk (autologous). Cellular biologics such as Amniotic, Placenta and or Umbilical tissues are sourced safely and ethically from healthy mother-babies who donate these tissues.
We discuss risks (e.g., bleeding, vessel/nerve injury, infection—rare; adipose mini-liposuction and BMA procedural risks) during consultation.Second Chance After a Stroke — Are You a PSE Candidate?
You are NOT a PERISPINAL ETANERCEPT Candidate if any of the following apply: active infections (TB- Tuberculosis, viral, fungal, parasitic), active cancer (need ≥5 years remission), organ transplant, chemotherapy/immunosuppressants, bleeding disorders (e.g., hemophilia), cytopenias, immune system disorders, lymphoma, HIV/AIDS, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, bone marrow disorders, demyelinating disease (MS, transverse myelitis, optic neuritis, Guillain-Barré), active hepatitis, uncontrolled diabetes, active CHF, recent seizures (relative), any vaccination within prior 6 months, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or concurrent biologics (must be stopped ≥4 weeks). Full list reviewed at consult.
If you are not a PSE Candidate, consider our Regenerative Medicine Injection options.

Just to confirm Dr. Cruz is in our directory 🙂
Also please know our Trusted Referral Network is in train too, so hopefully finding Trusted Doctors and all other medical professionals will hopefully become a lot easier. It’s a huge requirement and we’re working hard to create a system/method to meet this.
