Is “Organic” Still Organic? USDA Changes Could Redefine Everything
-
A tweet by @warsh1010 is making the rounds and raising serious questions about what we’re putting on our plates:
“A🚨 ALERT: ‘Organic’ might not mean what you think anymore.
The USDA just greenlit new biotech injections for animals used in ‘organic’ meat.”
🧬 Gene-editing injections are now allowed in animals labeled “organic”
💉 That means altered DNA in your meat – and the label doesn’t have to tell you
🥩 The organic standard has changed – and not in our favor
🔎 So What’s Actually Happening?
The USDA has reportedly approved certain biotech and gene-editing treatments for livestock—without revoking the “organic” label. This shift could mean animals are genetically altered or given high-tech injections, and yet still sold under the organic label many consumers pay extra for.(link to an article in the comments)
🧬 This raises big questions:
Is the USDA organic label still trustworthy?
What are we really eating?
Who’s watching the watchdogs?
✅ What Can You Do?
I know we have had a similar discussion before about growing our own food, and it warmed my heart that many of you do, but the tweet offered some great ideas to help us reclaim honesty in our food supply:
Go Local – Connect with nearby ethical farms:
EatWild.com
LocalHarvest.org
RealMilk.com
Get a Box Freezer – Buy a portion of a cow, store meat, and reduce reliance on centralized systems.
Build Your Food Freedom Tribe – Share eggs, grow herbs, barter honey. Think local, seasonal, and sustainable.
