We often discuss how large corporations have taken control of medicine, limiting choice and making transparency harder. But did you know something similar may be happening to restaurant food?

I watched a video showing how a small number of very powerful distributors have taken over the supply of foods to restaurants. This consolidation means higher prices for mass-produced food made under grueling conditions.

We the customers, get the same mass-produced, frozen and ultra-processed food appearing on completely different menus, even in areas surrounded by local farms.

If we believe in informed consent in medicine, should we expect it from restaurants too?

Should menus tell us what is made from scratch, what arrives frozen, and where the food actually comes from?

Would that information change what you ordered, and have you already noticed restaurants becoming suspiciously similar?

I’ll share the video link in the comments.

ABSOLUTELY! This is why I don’t eat out much anymore and why when I do everyone with me rolls their eyes when I have to question the waiter about the food and order things specifically 😆

I am glad I am retired because I spend a lot of time figuring out food prep and ingredients and where to buy what I need. It’s a job in itself and it shouldn’t be.

Add this to the already long list of reasons why I seldom eat out. If it’s not the cost and noise level in restaurants and bars, it’s the quality of what is being served.

Too many variables to deal with when eating out. It isn’t worth it to risk something that can have an impact on my health. Eating at home I control everything. About the riskiest thing I do is attend vegan potlucks when I visit vegan communities. Never had any issues because we all share the same mindset. Knock on wood!
