Am I the only one who feels frustrated by how quickly we’ve embraced medication (GLP-1) as the answer to obesity?

I know losing weight isn’t easy, and for some people, these medications can help them start their journey.

But why aren’t we doing more to prevent obesity in the first place, perhaps starting with our children?

Let’s teach children about nutrition at school? Giving them practical cooking skills, showing them how to prepare healthy meals and helping them understand what highly processed foods can do to their health?

If I look back to the 1980s, children were often the ones telling their parents about the dangers of smoking. I’m sure many of us remember children saying things like, “I don’t want you to die!”

Children can be incredibly powerful at changing attitudes at home. Imagine if we gave them the knowledge and confidence to encourage healthier habits across the whole family.

In a recent interview on The National Desk, Dr Joseph Varon discusses GLP-1 weight loss drugs, their potential benefits and risks, and what we still don’t know about their long-term safety.
