Eliminating radio active dye after the Nuclear Medicine testing

  • Eliminating radio active dye after the Nuclear Medicine testing

My husband recently went through some Nuclear Medicine testing for Myocardial Exercise and Cardiolite Stress Test. It involved injection of radio active isotope into his vein. They warned him that it would stay in the body enough to trigger an Airport scan for 5 days. Although we have no plans to fly out any time soon, we would like to know:

    1) How long would the dye normally stay in the body, and

    2) How could we eliminate the radio active stuff out of his body as quickly as possible? Any supplements that can facilitate the detox process?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help, in advance.

I might be able to answer your first question:

I was injected with technetium-99 or technetium-99m for a whole-body scan 36 years ago. As I lay on a cot, I was fascinated to be able to watch how it rapidly went to my heart, to my lungs, other organs, and finally to my bones (after about 45 minutes). The biological half-life of technetium-99m is about 1 day, then after 1 day roughly 50% of the dose remains (on average), and after each additional day the remaining fraction halves again (e.g., ~25% after 2 days, ~12.5% after 3 days).
