Do You Know Who is Sharing Your Bed?

I didn’t realise how much of an issue bed bugs are becoming again—especially with travel picking up. I actually had a friend deal with an infestation and she said it made her feel so dirty… even though I’ve since learned that’s not really the case at all.

Apparently even the cleanest homes and hotels can get them—they’re basically expert hitchhikers that travel in luggage and clothes 😳

I’m glad to see Dr. Turner talking about this on The National News Desk this week (link in comments), especially around the real impact—not just bites, but sleep disruption and how that affects overall health.

    Random (slightly horrifying) fact:

A single female bed bug can lay up to 500 eggs in her lifetime… so basically, if you see one, it’s not “a bug”—it’s the start of a full-blown family reunion 😅

Have you ever come across bed bugs, or even heard of issues locally? I feel like it’s one of those things you don’t think about… until you really do 😬

Senior Fellow Dr. Michael Turner joined host Jan Jeffcoat on The National Desk for a timely discussion on bedbugs, health risks, and practical steps families can take to protect themselves. Watch now. https://imahealth.org/bedbug-surge-what-families-need-to-know/

We do not have a current infestation of bed bugs, but we have been through it! After countless efforts to eliminate them, we finally succeeded with simple bleach spray and food grade diatomaceous earth – the least expensive of all treatment options, and the only one that worked! Have not had any since then and it’s been 5 years.

I’ve had success with using ivermectin. People in the house can take 12-24 mg ivermectin depending on body weight twice a week and the bedbugs die when they bite you. It is a simple solution.

That is so interesting … what made you try it in the first place, had you heard that it worked from someone?

I think all of us are constantly researching and studying in the health field. I saw some obscure research article that mentioned in one sentence that IVM might work for that. Fortunately have not had to use it but one time for a friend living in an assisted living facility. They were trying to move all of the residents out and treat the building somehow. She did the IVM for her room and she doesn’t let them bring in a mop or broom or anything to re contaminate her room. They can’t figure out why she doesn’t have a problem with it any more. So, just a case of one but it makes sense. I’ve heard that mosquitoes are supposed to die if they bite you when you are on IVM.
