Cost Plus Pharmacy – Fighting to Keep Prices Low

Have you heard about a cost plus pharmacy, they charge the price of the medication plus 10 dollars.

I am always looking for signs that a parallel system is growing out of the broken system, and this strikes me as a great example of just that.

A cost plus pharmacist explains how they work at combating the system, the example he gives is of a cancer drug, it costs him 7 dollars to buy, they add 10 dollars, so you leave paying 17 dollars for the cancer medication.

Now when Medicare pays for the same drug it costs the patient $24000!!

Why because the insurance company pay a middle man PBM (pharmacy benefits manager), they decide how much that medicine costs and the real catch, they work on a commission (percentage of the price), so they want the drugs sold for the highest price.

👉Do you support a local small pharmacy and do they offer this service or something similar?

Sounds like an innovative concept! In an economic market flooded with national pharmacy chains, how does one go about identifying and locating a small independent pharmacy?

I agree, a great model that people will really support. I know the IMA has some pharmacies on the provider list, and I know from talking to some of them at the last conference that they are trying to build these networks. Here’s the link to the provider list https://imahealth.org/providers/ … I would try AI to see if they know of any independent pharmacies in your area too.

We have used Cost Plus pharmacy a number of times. Our functional health doctor recommended it. Also Glendale Pharmacy.

Thank you for letting us know @cyclists – are they in your area or do they send you the prescription?

Everything is mail order. Our doctor sends them my rx. Glendale Pharmacy carries my NP Thyroid. Much cheaper than local pharmacies.

Thank you for this info !! Yes a parallel emerging universe would be beneficial. My personal goal is to avoid the pharma as much as possible but it is at times neccessary. I overcame a long battle with c-diff which I got from a prescribed anti-biotic known for causing. That was for a bad tooth during covid. I actually went with an alternative real medicine supp’s/herbs protocol suggested by a biologist who had cured herself and used my PCP to test and re-test which came up clear. I just could not bring myself to take another anti-biotic to cure a disease caused by an anti-biotic.

So happy to help, it sounds you went through a torrid time, but so delighted you could find the right help.

During covid we got ivermectin from CVS, mail order out of country and a local small pharmacy. The little pharmacy was the most expensive and definitely were taking advantage of the situation. I would love to have a list of some good pharmacies to have on hand.

I was fortunate during the pandemic years to connect with a user-friendly pharmacy that values medical freedom. A doctor aligned with MyFreeDoctor* prescribed ivermectin for me and sent the rx to TruLifePharmacy in Florida. A 12 week supply of compounded capsules cost me only about $60, including shipping. The doctor indicated 3-mg tablets but I called the pharmacy (904-531-3030) and they were glad to convert that to 18-mg capsules, because the doc had said “substitutions allowed” on the rx. *MFD will press you for a donation; however, if you are destitute, they would understand. Their main purpose is to provide service to those in need.
