What would be the benefit on Trans-Cranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) on the Basal ganglia of the brain after multiple strokes and “Locked-in” Syndrome? Is there any way that this therapy could effect the Basal Ganglia in the same way it does when dealing with stimulating parts of the brain to rid depression?

TMS mainly targets surface brain areas, so directly stimulating the basal ganglia is difficult. However, it might indirectly affect deeper regions and promote motor recovery by enhancing brain plasticity. While well-proven for depression, using TMS for motor function after strokes or locked-in syndrome is still experimental and usually combined with rehab therapies. Consulting a specialist is key.
