    From @francesca16

Hi, my first and gorgeous grandson is 16 weeks old. He does have an issue with getting to sleep and staying asleep unless he is “on the move”. i.e. He will drop off in a carrier as long as you are moving, but is quick to wake when the motion stops. Likewise in the car.

He does not settle to sleep, either daytime or at night in his cot or by himself. Does anyone have any answers to this please? His daytime naps can be quite short and he is quickly comforted on the breast.

We are not keen on ‘sleep training’ but any other suggestions would be very gratefully received!

    Thank you.

One of our team replied: “We had an automated rocking bassinet that helped for that sort of thing. And as a back-up, a lot of tired uncles walking the halls with a baby”😊

You can check into what the mother is eating and drinking which can always be helpful but my daughter had the exact problem, this is how she solved it… With her her first boy she had lots of challenges and was really a wreck. Some things were out of her control – like suspected mold, noise in her suite, etc. Her first born cried, arched his back, had problems staying asleep, etc. With her second child she decided to do things different. She and her partner moved to another house and she committed herself to daily contact naps with her new baby. She would make a plate of apples, cheese and flat bread, take her favourite book and hold her baby for 2 hours in the afternoon. I said Carly, you’re crazy, nap time is when you run around and get all that work done!! Still, she held to her guns and held her little one in her arms daily. Her boy, now at 19 months is the most relaxed, interested and interesting little guy. I’m so grateful that she trusted her instinct and did not fall victim to her messy house. What an amazing outcome!!

From another of our team (a few have new babies)

“Our first was the exact same way! The Snoo, a bassinet that gently rocks them, was really helpful for us, though we only used it for the first four or five months.

Another thing worth asking your pediatrician or lactation consultant about is whether they’re transferring enough milk during feeds. Around four months, we learned that our son had a tongue tie that was affecting his feeding. Once it was treated, he started getting full feeds, and his sleep improved so much!”
