In his latest Brownstone article, Dr. Joseph Varon reflects on surviving the devastating 1985 Mexico City earthquake, watching the hospital where he was training collapse around him. Decades later, another earthquake brought those memories flooding back, but with them came an important realization: the defining moments in our lives aren’t the disasters themselves, but how we choose to respond to them.
