Do you always make time for breakfast—or are you someone who powers through the morning without it?

I try and fast until midday – but do often start the day at that point with eggs.

However, I have grandchildren who love breakfast, so am always looking for ideas that are healthy and fun options.

For those that do eat breakfast, (or those that eat it later in the day) here are some healthy family-friendly ideas if you’re looking for inspiration:

And if you care to share your favorite go to breakfast below, that would be wonderful.

For the past 15 years or so my daily breakfast starts out with oatmeal and either raisins or crasins along with cinnamon and brown rice syrup. Its also the time that I take most of my supplements. Weekends I might do something different like potatoes and onions and garlic or I might do pancakes or a brown rice dish or quinoa. But mostly it is oatmeal. For the past 3 years I have switched to organic oatmeal since Quaker oats are contaminated with glysophate. My daily intermittent fasting ends when I eat break-fast.

As an older (66 years young) woman, I thought that intermittent fasting (finish dinner at 7pm and not eat again until 11am the next day) was the way to stay healthy and keep the tummy bulge from happening (plus exercise and healthy eating of course). However, recently I became aware of the research conducted by Dr Stacey Sims et al, that has shown that intermittent fasting for women is not healthy (see her Ted Talk, and podcasts). My breakfast of choice was a smoothie (otherwise known as a shake) from a nutritional supplement company of good quality, and not only filled me up but was easy to make and consume. Now that I have understood that fasted exercise is not a good idea for women (of any age), I have a small amount of protein in the form of undenatured grass fed whey when I first get up, and prior to my workout, followed by a meal replacement shake (all the minerals and vitamins and enzymes contained in the shake to create a protein-rich but balanced meal) after the workout.

When the occasion arises to treat myself, my husband and I will have what we call a “big” breakfast consisting of crepes, bacon, grapefruit halves and sometimes some scrambled eggs on the side!

Hi robinluxor – there’s this guide and download on our site https://imahealth.org/protocol/eat-well-guide-to-fasting-and-healthy-eating/.

There are a few notes about when women should be careful about intermittent fasting, but I don’t see anything about women your age. Please have a read of the download. Our docs wouldn’t propose it if it shouldn’t be followed. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong – thanks)
