That’s part of the Groups/social network system. You can connect and follow individuals. When they post on their personal timeline, that can show up on your activity feed. So you can tailor your follow list and build out your own social network.

The current edit/delete rule is 10 minutes, I’ll adjust that so it can be deleted after.

There is a bug where inbox is not accessible unless you are an admin. Even though it’s configured to be for the membership levels we have assigned. We are looking into this.

For forums, if you tried to enter a forum that is behind a Membership Level, you are redirected to a page to upsell you on that. This isn’t working in Alpha as that page/system doesn’t exist and can’t exist while communities is hidden and secret. But it would be like the comparison checkout chart demo’d previously.

We have a big task when it comes to groups and joining. Our needs go well outside the scope of these tools and how they can be configured.

We need the ability to openly join some groups, request to join some groups, and not allow even a request to join on other groups (membership based).

Right now, we have an all-or-nothing situation of “can request to join any group or not”.

For the closed alpha, it is allowed and we will test the process and feel of that. But by release, certain groups will be invite-only and membership gated.

    @tmarkson,

@kmorros created a forum (love connection) that works the way I mentioned. If you click the forum space, it takes you to the group page->discussion tab. So the forum and group are tightly coupled (pun intended?).

There is a way to lock forums into Groups only. One of the Groups tabs will be “discussions” and it will load in a designated forum. This works if you want to focus Groups first and make your forum system invisible.

However, that would mean every time we wanted a forum space we would have to create a Group for it as well. And as you can see, we have a lot of forum spaces we want to utilize.

So we have kept Groups and Forums detached. Groups are for social networking style interactions, “shout boxes”, timelines/feeds, connections, etc. Forums are for long-form discussions. They serve two different purposes and are both important to have.

As for live chat, we have that coming in a later release. Something we can utilize for live events, webinars, etc. But would also allow people to quickly chat with anyone who is currently online in a group.

Groups are where you have a better “shout box”. It’s more like a single channel/activity feed.

Yes, so there is a connect and a follow. We can set it up so connecting auto-follows. Connecting allows you to see them in your “friend” list and DM them. So you can’t just DM anyone you want. They have to accept your connection request.

Following is specifically for seeing what they post on your activity feed.

We do have control over presentation, but this coupling is not likely the way we’ll go for production. It’s just too limiting and puts the forum system in the background, which we want to be more of a focus.

Just for the testing phase, and we may make it only the first time they log in.

In the sub-forums, we may want to build out graphics in gray header bar as we build out, examples.

Allison did a great job of getting some basic designs up, but not for every forum space, especially sub-forums. Definitely an item on our list.

Also, how canI “attach” documents? easy process to add url ink 🙂

Good catch! I went over the settings again and those were not configured correctly in this environment. They are now, so you should see the icons for images and documents when you create a thread, make a reply, etc.

Would we want to tailor Community Guidelines within the PRO side to address issues of exchanging medial info per the strong we had on his topic on email?

Sounds like this is something we’ll be regularly fine-tuning.

How can I invite someone to follow me — or message someone? No one showing up.

When you click on a Profile, you’ll get options to connect or send. This is more obvious in the Groups system. Go into any Group and you can look at Members and start connecting and messaging.

If I am in the Provider’s Directory, might we want the key resources “pinned” for reference and then folks can comment?

This is a big one. I even considered turning off that forum for now until we are ready. We don’t have content seeded, and we aren’t entirely sure we want to do what was in the demo and fill it with every provider/pharmacy entry. But we do have a lot of good instruction/content we can add to a sticky for that forum to help guide people. We’ll have to keep thinking on what we want that space to be. We can make it like in the demo. That is part of our dev items. We just have to build it ourselves with the new architecture.

Also, would be good to “seed” topics and comments as you discussed — as we get more folks in here.

Yes, we are in the process of doing that now, but welcome our great content team to chip in as well. Eventually we will have it auto-wired and maybe even back-filled with all of our website content for review and comments.

But we also want to have fresh, non-site content seeded. I’m working through thread ideas on that. Could be as simple as sharing big news items we regularly run across and share internally.
