Food products that previously carried “GMO” labels (Genetically Modified Organism) are increasingly being labeled as “biofortified” or “nutritionally enhanced.”

This includes crops altered through genetic engineering to:

Increase vitamins or minerals (like iron, zinc, or vitamin A)

    Improve shelf life

    Resist pests or drought

💡 Why the Shift in Language?

“GMO” has become a red flag for many consumers concerned about health, safety, or transparency.

“Biofortified” sounds beneficial—like it’s been fortified for your health, which can reduce consumer hesitation.

It reframes genetic engineering as a nutrition upgrade, not a corporate-driven science experiment.

A reminder: always read the labels, and double check those terms that sound healthy!
