Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more discussions about the chemicals in conventional sunscreens—and honestly, I think it’s about time. Some ingredients have been linked to hormone disruption, allergic reactions, and even an increased risk of skin cancer. Yikes.

As a moms, it just makes sense to use as few chemicals as possible, especially on our kids’ delicate skin. I’ve started using the Yuka app to scan products and check for safety—and the results have been eye-opening.

👩‍⚕️ I even came across a DIY natural sunscreen recipe from Dr. Berg that I’ve started making myself. It’s simple, clean, and I feel better knowing exactly what’s going on my family’s skin:

    🌿 Natural Sunscreen Recipe

    ½ cup coconut oil

    ¼ cup olive oil

¼ cup pure aloe vera gel (make sure it’s chemical-free)

➡️ Gently heat to blend, then stir in:

2 tbsp non-nano zinc oxide (this is key—it protects without being absorbed)

Store in a glass jar and keep cool. It goes on smooth and feels nourishing.

I’d love to hear your thoughts:

Do you scan or read sunscreen labels?

Have you tried making your own?

What clean brands (if any) do you trust for sun protection?

Let’s swap tips—because smart moms read labels, and we know protection shouldn’t come at the cost of health. 💪🌞

Why is this in a Moms group? It seems like everyone would be interested.

I’ve seen the claim among carnivores that they no longer need or use any sunscreen. They don’t consume seed oils and plant sterols which apparently build unhealthy cell membranes which allow sunburn.

I eat a keto diet which also avoids those, and indeed I’ve observed that I don’t use any sunscreen and don’t get burned. Though I’m not certain I get enough sun to be a plausible case study.

Hi technical, membership of this group is not restricted to Moms. We are though creating an information library designed to arm Mom’s with info they need to help guide their families through the minefield of modern medicine.

Could you provide some links to the keto info you’ve read? And there may well be some who follow a more vegan way, who would have their own take.
