Is This Informed Consent?
In this week’s show, during a discussion on informed consent and the transitioning of young people, Jennifer Lahl said something that really cut through the noise:
👉 She suggested that the idea of informed consent is null and void in the transitioning of young people…”we have no business doing this. This is not proper medical care. Doctors are not supposed to be damaging healthy, normal bodies. This is all experimental anyway—we have no idea if you will ever have children or have a healthy sex life… so how can we even discuss informed consent?”
Is “informed consent” meaningful if the person consenting and the person giving them information to help them make a choice, can’t possibly understand the long-term consequences—or if those consequences aren’t even fully known?
Well we saw this playbook throughout history and it never ends well.
