Informed Consent
-
Hi everyone! I’m a big fan of The DarkHorse Podcast, and recently Brett and Heather made a point that really resonated with me: bringing back proper informed consent can help foster open and honest dialogue. It creates a space where people feel safe expressing their concerns and can make decisions without feeling pressured or coerced.
This got me thinking—have you ever been given proper informed consent when taking a vaccine, undergoing a medical procedure, or starting a new medication?
As a quick reminder, informed consent includes these key elements:
- Clear Information: You should receive a detailed, understandable explanation about the treatment, including its purpose, benefits, risks, and alternatives.
- Voluntary Choice: You should be free to decide without any coercion or pressure.
- Capacity to Decide: You should have the mental and emotional ability to fully understand the information.
- Ongoing Communication: Your questions should be answered, and your decisions—whether to accept or refuse—should be respected.
Do you think informed consent is essential for ethical and honest medical practice? I’d love to hear your thoughts or any experiences you’ve had around this!
