In her latest Here’s a Thought column, Jenna McCarthy tackles this hot topic with her signature wit and sharp insight, exploring why she’s chosen to stop vaccinating her pets and how she’s far from alone.

Backed by data and a growing shift in public sentiment, Jenna looks at what mainstream coverage often misses: the parallels between the veterinary and human vaccine industries and the rise of informed skepticism among pet owners.

“The results showed that around 1 in 5 dog owners (22 percent) and nearly the same percentage of cat owners (26 percent) were vaccine-hesitant. The data also indicated that these are the same individuals who are shying away from vaccinating themselves or their children. This should not be a surprise, as research has shown that around 90 percent of dog owners consider their pet to be part of their family.” Psychology Today

What is often ignored, says Jenna, by the media is that the veterinary industry is running the same playbook as the human one—push more shots, shame anyone who questions them, dismiss every adverse reaction as a quirky little coincidence, and label all skepticism as “dangerous misinformation.”

Where do you stand on vaccines for your pets?

Absolutely not following the suggested American vet “recommendations”. There is a rise in pet autism… yes, spectrum disorders in pets also. My lab is suffering now from being vaccinated at 4 weeks old! 4 weeks! (Normal is 6-8 weeks). Further, I believe we need some advocates for pet vaccine exemptions (philosophical/religious), not just for medical which is RARE to obtain. I agree that industry as overtaken the Vet Schools and it is a sad time for pets. I pray many will rise up to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

No longer a pet owner, I don’t follow closely, however, always knew the animal vaccines cause the same harm as human ones do to people. When an 18 yr old kitty was dying I took her to a vet that was open to homeopathy and animal chiropractic. As soon as he was told she never had a single vaccine or drug he immediately said ‘that is why she has lived so long!’ Of course I felt she was dying way too young.

Another experience was with a 13 yr old golden retriever belonging to a customer. The dog had been on anti-seizure drugs for years but since he wasn’t seizing the owners stopped the drugs. The dog was clearly vaccine damaged. I convinced the owners to let me treat the dog with low level laser and they would owe me nothing if it didn’t help. Treating his brain with my portable unit, within the hour the dogs entire visage opened up with his eyes brightening and improved energy. The owners were also strongly encouraged to give up the cheap kibble and feed species appropriate diet (real meat) which had a big impact on his energy. Unfortunately the wife was resentful of having to feed this dog the meat she preferre buying for her human family. It was very clearly a case of vaccinosis that was not cured by drugs which only supressed the symptoms and kept the vet’s lucrative business going.

An acquaintance has brought their pooch to me for some laser treatments on his back. However, the sadness is that the dog had his lower jaw removed due to cancer. Importantly, the owner (the husband) developed esophageal cancer which he has been treating. I cannot help but thinking the dog absorbed the man’s sick energy and took on the same disease –animals are so empathetic they often do this to help their humans. The owners seem to have some awareness of this dynamic but not sufficiently to have prevented it from happening. The owner suffers, in part, from PTSD from the Viet Nam war with all the toxic chemical exposures which contributed, if not totally caused the cancer.

I haven’t jabbed any of my pets, 9 cats, 2 over 20 yrs. Surprisingly none of them died of Lepto or rabies or anything else the kill shots are supposed to protect them from, go figure. Furthermore one of the cats, a stray, tested positive for feline leukaemia and despite sharing bowls, food, water, beds none of the other 8 got it….

I learned many years ago that “pet” vaccines had the same efficacy and safety profiles as human vaccines. All 6 of my feline children had received their initial shots before I adopted them but not a single one of them ever received another dose until their final days on earth. The cost of vet care has skyrocketed in recent years and the emphasis on money is no different that from the human medical system. Big money in pet insurance as well. The models for the vet industry are identical to the human medical practices.
