I have a hard time with supplements. There are hundreds of them. They cost a lot. When is supplementation too much (toxic)? What are the interactions? Are they necessary or even desirable? I have taken many, generally for six months or more and have not seen any discernable difference. A Grok query indicates that the effects of taking AGE are mild and questionable and that similar or even better results can be had by eating raw garlic or onions regularly.

I believe that we get all the nutrition we need from a carnivore diet with the exception of bacterial/virual infections that might need some immune system boosts or malfunctioning organs that need specific treatment.

Somebody convince me that AGE or any other supplementation is useful please.

Thanks @shortstop if you feel all your needs are met with your diet, and you are in good health, that’s fantastic,!

I wish it were that simple. At 88, I’m in pretty good health so far but I’ve had a Mitral valve in my heart replaced, I take a med for hypothyroidism and I have both bladder and Prostate cancer. I’ve been taking high dose Ivermectin and Fenbendazole for six months but was just scheduled for another turp in January so…bad news. Do I need to add AGE to my protocol to cure my bladder cancer or would something else provide greater odds of success? Very depressing since I thought what I was doing would help. But all that aside…

I guess the lesson here is that if it ain’t broke, don’t take supplements to try to make it better. None of that stuff, AGE included, are beneficial to a healthy, comfortable, energetic body.

@shortstop I’ve had 2 TURPs in the past 12 years and will never get another one. My next prostate issue for BPH will be a PAE instead. Less invasive and harm to the tissues.

            Hi Dan,

The TURP is for active bladder cancer, not the Prostate cancer which they’re ‘watching’. I don’t see a good alternative since the alternative meds I’m taking aren’t getting the job done.

Have you asked Grok to search the pathways that lead to bladder cancer and which biologicals or repurposed drugs or supplements might be effective in downregulating those pathways?

I’m no doctor so the pathways are a bit above my pay grade. I do read articles that discuss them so I think I’m up on most of it. I’ve got some high dose ECGC on order which I’ll add to my regimen and hope that will help. After three TURP surgeries and five years, I’m getting real tired of this but at least they’re not cutting me open to get the job done.

Here are 3 things you might try; Medicare covers 2, and the other isn’t prohibitively expensive. Metformin and a lipophilic statin (I’m taking simvastatin) work synergistically against cancer, according to Jane McClellan’s book. Low-dose (4.5 mg) naltrexone is also supposed to be good. You need a compounding pharmacy for that one; I just started it, and it cost about $75 for a 3 month supply. My Anthem Medicare plan covered the other 2 completely.

Thanks, FM. We got a bit off the topic but I will add those to my regimen and see if I can’t get that bladder cancer to go away. Appreciate it very much!

Has an truely independent comparison of effects and outcomes of doses of properly micro-planed fresh garlic puree with its highly active components and mechanisms analyzed been compared to doses of aged garlic extract with its likely somewhat different active components and mechanism analyzed that shows aged garlic extract superior to proper doses of fresh garlic puree?

Looking for garlic studies just a few years ago I found little, even on safety and that was done in animals.

My impression reading up a bit about the medicinal use of garlic was fresh garlic puree was most active and, based on animal studies, care must be exercised to prevent harms from dosing too much fresh garlic puree

For MEDICINAL or Wow! Hot Garlic.
    – use a micro-plane zester, let sit a few minutes, consume raw, mixing
bits into a mouthful of food. Or, as you will fire breath. Effective
preventative for social engagement and ????? What I found
“researching” … micro plane or otherwise puree very fine then let sit
for 2 min to 10 min (sources vary) for enzyme activity to develop
“active” properties. use raw or add after cooking and cool down as heat
    breaks down “active” properties.

Is aged garlic extract really special or high priced hype when compared to simple fresh garlic puree?

I like snacking on homemade pickled garlic on a regular basis and eat fresh garlic quite often. I go through about a pound of garlic every month. It seems to me that fresh garlic with the active components would be better for the body than a processed garlic. I know heat deactivates some components and makes it less pungent.

I do love pickled garlic…. 😋 more mellow than raw garlic and adding fermentation adds the magic power.

I use a lot of garlic in my cooking. I always use fresh, raw garlic and slice it thinly or chop finely so as to maximise the surface exposure to air, and put it aside for ten mins or so before adding it to the pot. This is said to increase the Allicin content. I also find this method reduces ‘garlic breath’ the following day.

In regard to dosage of aged black garlic extract for cancer treatment. The Guide for repurposed drugs suggest 1000mg of extract a day. The brand I bought (Nutricost) claims their extract is 25:1 which means if I took 1000mg of their supplement I would get the equivalent of 25,000mg of aged black garlic! That seems too much. Other brands have 12:1 or less. So is the 1000mg recommendation in the guide for extract or the extract equivalent?

    Thanks.

Hi @Hayden1 From Dr. Marik :

The preferred brand is Kyolic.. most of the studies have been done with this brand.

The tablets come in 300mg size; the suggested dose is 1200mg daily (see attached)- two tablets twice a day

I suppose on the next update this will be clarified.

Helen, Excellent information and straight from the source. I will order and use it. The Kyolic bottle does not state the ratio so it is unclear what the strength of the extract is. But this in not needed if the brand is provided. It is only needed for a general recommendation since brand strengths vary.

Thank you so much. The specific brand, which you provided, is the best information.
