I grew up when every family seemed to have a neighborhood physician, one office, one nurse, a couple of doctors and a waiting room full of people the doctors actually knew. The doctor would treat your strep throat, ask about your dad’s job stress, and remind the whole family to swap soda for water. 🩺🥕

Dr. Brooke Miller’s latest Substack piece, “Protecting Patients and Medical Professionals,” nails why that model is vanishing: hospital buy-outs, insurance red tape, and gag rules that silence lifestyle advice. It’s a sobering read (I’ll drop the link in the replies).

Do you still have an independent doctor, or is everyone in your area owned by a hospital chain?

What would it take to revive the true family practice, direct-primary-care, cash memberships, policy reform?
