    What a great discussion,.

With nearly 30% of adults worldwide suffering from insomnia, and 70 million Americans struggling with sleep disorders, its such an important topic to address.

The health consequences of lack of sleep are severe: increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, depression, and impaired memory.

Yet the standard medical response often makes things worse.

In this week’s IMA Webinar, Dr. Joseph Varon, IMA President and Chief Medical Officer, teams up with his daughter, Dr. Adylle Varon, a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and IMA Senior Fellow, to explore sleep from two distinct but complementary perspectives. What emerges is a case for integrative care where Western medical science and ancient Eastern healing traditions can address not just the symptom of sleeplessness, but its root causes.

They discussed why pills are not the answer, sleep hygiene, how doctors could ask better questions to uncover root causes of insomnia, they explored natural alternatives and rounded it off with questions from the community.

I’ve had trouble sleeping for many years and now learned to sleep much better through mind control via meditation, repeating relaxing mantras such as “peaceful healing” coinciding with the breaths and relaxation techniques. Though I still take some magnesium and low dose melatonin to help. I did not want to rely on any pharmaceuticals for sleeping. I was able to put worrying and troublesome thoughts out of mind so I can sleep better!

So glad you have had success, where did you learn your meditation techniques? Do you have any questions for the doctors?

Please include grounding in the discussion. It is the single most important thing my wife and I have discovered for improving our sleep. Sleep and circadian rhythm (which grounding regulates) are crucial, even to cancer… this article tells the story: https://intuition-physician.com/is-your-circadian-rhythm-the-key-to-preventing-cancer/

@jrgerber walking along the paseo this morning with Helen and our neighbor’s dog, there was a gentleman taking shelter from the rain. He tapped his head to indicate I was loco, and said with a big smile, “I watch out for you everyday.” They all think I’m nuts, but I predict barefoot walking is going to be a huge thing in our neck of the woods within the next 10 years. (Well, I hope it will.) But my barefoot walking keeps me grounded, and I sleep well. Your point is well made.

Question: What really is going on when you wake up at around 3am and have trouble getting back to sleep?
